How have you applied the last edition to your life?
Opening Prayer
Father God, teach us to live in the miracle of everlasting hope found only in Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
Introduction
I used to love watching a series called “Fringe” – a rather strange, sci-fi story that ran for about six seasons. Every episode left me on edge, wondering what would happen to the lead characters. When the penultimate season ended, I couldn’t wait for the local network to air the finale. So I went onto iTunes and bought the entire last season. My wife and I devoured it at two episodes per night until we reached that final episode where everything turned out brilliantly for the characters. Such relief!
Months later, when the final season aired on television, we watched some episodes again. I remember seeing the lead characters in dire situations that had previously made my heart race with anxiety. But this second viewing was different. I felt calm. No racing pulse, no white knuckles gripping the sofa. Why? Because I knew how it would end. I’d already seen the finale.
Life generates the same anxiety. When we don’t know what tomorrow brings, worry consumes us. When we know the outcome, peace replaces panic. God understands this perfectly. Through His revelation to John, He’s shown us the ultimate finale – how everything ends. For those rooted in Christ, the ending is glorious: eternal life with Him. Our earthly existence – perhaps 80 years if we’re fortunate – shrinks to insignificance against eternity’s endless horizon. If eternity were merely 1,000 years, our lifetime would represent just 8%. If 10,000 years, we’d account for 0.8%. But eternity is infinite, making our present troubles fleeting shadows against eternal glory.

  3. What connection do you see between trusting God’s revealed future and managing today’s troubles?

  5. What would living look like if you reminded yourself daily of how the story ends?
Final Thought
Watching “Fringe” the second time taught me something profound about faith. When you know the finale, the middle episodes lose their terror. The characters still face peril, the villains still threaten, the situations still appear hopeless – but you watch with calm assurance because you’ve seen how it ends.
Matthew 6:34 isn’t merely advice to stop worrying; it’s an invitation to live with finale knowledge. Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow because He’s already secured our ultimate tomorrow. He’s preparing our place even now. John’s Revelation shows us the closing scene: God dwelling with His people, no more tears, no more death, no more pain. The old order of things passed away.
This isn’t wishful thinking or religious escapism. It’s the script’s final page, revealed by the Author Himself. When we grasp this truth – really grasp it – our present troubles shrink to their proper size. That job loss? A brief scene in episode three of season two. That health scare? A tense moment before the commercial break. That relationship struggle? Character development in act one.
“Remind yourself daily of what the final episode looks like and you will face anything.” Not because you’re strong, but because you know how the story ends. For those in Christ, it ends with eternal life, perfect peace, and unending joy in God’s presence. Every challenge between now and then is just part of the journey to that glorious finale.
