CoffeeChat 6 – Sow and Reap

Edition 6

Sow and Reap

Last Edition Recap
How have you applied the last edition to your life?
Opening Prayer
Lord, reveal to us the seeds we’re planting and the harvest we’re creating with our choices. Amen.
Introduction
Gravity is inescapable. Switch off an aircraft’s engines mid-flight, and no amount of wishful thinking changes the outcome—what goes up must come down. This natural law operates without prejudice or exception. Yet there’s another law equally certain: sowing and reaping. You cannot plant wheat and harvest apples. A farmer knows this truth intimately. But here’s what stops us cold: when we face persecution, anger, exclusion, or abandonment, we rarely pause to ask the humbling question—”How have I done this very thing to someone else?” We want to escape the consequences whilst denying the cause. The supernatural laws of God are infinitely more powerful than gravity, yet we treat them as suggestions. When bitterness grows in our relationships, we forget we planted those seeds. When kindness returns to us, we’re surprised by our own harvest. The universe operates on this principle, but more importantly, so does God’s kingdom. Every word, action, and attitude is a seed. The question isn’t whether you’ll reap—it’s whether you’ll like the harvest.

  1. What stood out for you about the farmer’s generous scattering of seed despite the soil conditions?
  2. How does the certainty of reaping what we sow both comfort and convict you?
  3. What connection do you see between the different soils and the seeds we ourselves plant?
  4. Why do you think Paul warns us not to be deceived about this spiritual law?
  5. How does sowing to please the Spirit differ from sowing to please the flesh in practical terms?
Final Thought
Just as gravity pulls everything down when engines fail, the law of sowing and reaping operates with absolute certainty. God cannot be mocked—this isn’t a threat but a promise of cosmic justice and mercy. When you’re challenged by persecution, anger, or abandonment, the humble question isn’t “Why me?” but “What have I sown?” This isn’t about guilt but liberation. Once you recognise the ungodly seeds you’ve planted, you gain the power to uproot them and re-sow God’s good seed. The farmer in Jesus’s parable sowed generously on all soil because he understood abundance—God sows His message everywhere, hoping for harvest anywhere. You’re both soil and sower. Every moment presents a choice: sow to the flesh and reap destruction, or sow to the Spirit and reap eternal life. The harvest is coming. Choose your seeds wisely.
