Edition 51
Important
Last Edition Recap
How have you applied the last edition to your life?
Opening Prayer
God, help us grasp just how important we are to you, that our lives might overflow with joy. Amen.
Introduction
We’re brilliant at eulogies but terrible at telling people they matter whilst they’re alive. At funerals, we finally say the things that would have meant everything to the person when they could hear them. A widow once shared how she discovered, through condolence cards, that her husband had quietly mentored dozens of young people—yet he’d died thinking he’d made little difference. He never knew his importance because no one told him.
We all crave significance. Not fame or titles, but the assurance that our lives add value to those we love. Yet we’re rubbish at expressing this to one another. We assume people know. They don’t. The tragedy is waiting until it’s too late, speaking words into the void when they should have been spoken into the living.
It’s important to tell the person who is important to you that they are important to you.

Read
Romans 5:1-11, Mark 12:28-34
Key Focus
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: whilst we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Mark 12:33 – “To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Chat Point 2
What stood out for you in these passages?
According to Romans 5:8, what does God find important, and how did he demonstrate this?
How does it feel to realise that God considered you important enough to die for whilst you were still a sinner?
Mark 12:33 suggests what’s truly important to God—how does this challenge or affirm your current priorities?
If God makes us this important, how should this reshape how we view and treat others who matter to us?
Final Thought
Like the man who never knew he’d mentored so many, we often live unaware of our importance—both to God and to others. Romans 5:8 settles the question definitively: you are so important to God that Christ died for you whilst you were still a sinner. Not after you got yourself sorted. Not when you deserved it. But when you were at your worst. That’s how valuable you are.
Yet here’s the mirror we must face: if God finds us that important, how important is God to us? Mark 12:33 challenges us to love him wholeheartedly and love our neighbour as ourselves. This isn’t about religious performance—it’s about reciprocal value.
Don’t wait for funerals. Tell people they matter. Tell God he matters. Live as someone who knows their importance.
