CoffeeChat 1 – Build It

Edition 1

Build It

Opening Prayer
Lord, open our hearts and minds to Your divine plans as we gather in fellowship today. Amen.
Introduction
In the Old Testament, Noah faced ridicule and disbelief as he built an enormous ark on dry land. Imagine the whispers, the pointing fingers, the doubt from neighbours. Yet Noah persisted, following God’s exact specifications, because his family’s survival depended on his obedience. Today, we face a similar calling. God asks us to build His church—not with wood and pitch, but with our lives, talents, and dedication. Like Noah, we might face scepticism when we volunteer without pay, serve without recognition, or invite others to join God’s work. But what if our spiritual survival, and that of others, depends on our faithfulness to build what God has designed?
Chat Point 1
Before we dive into today’s reading, let’s reflect:
    1. How do you respond when God asks you to do something that others might not understand?
    2. What experiences have shaped your understanding of being part of God’s church?
    3. How would you describe the difference between building for ourselves versus building for God?
    4. What role do you think obedience plays in fulfilling God’s purposes?
    5. In what ways might God be preparing you for something bigger than you currently imagine?
Read
Genesis 6:9-7:24
Key Focus
1 Corinthians 12:27 – “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
Chat Point 2
  1. What stood out for you in Noah’s unwavering faith despite the enormity of the task?
  2. How does Noah’s isolation during the building process speak to your own faith journey?
  3. What parallels can you draw between building the ark and building God’s church today?
  4. How does knowing you are part of Christ’s body change your perspective on church involvement?
  5. What might God be asking you to build or contribute that requires stepping out in faith?
Final Thought
Just as Noah built the ark according to God’s precise instructions, we are called to build His church—not as a physical structure, but as a living body where each person plays a vital part. Noah’s obedience saved his family from physical destruction; our obedience in building God’s kingdom offers spiritual salvation to many. You are not merely attending church; you ARE the church. Every talent you possess, every hour you volunteer, every person you invite—these are the planks and pitch of modern-day ark building. The question isn’t whether God needs you (He’s chosen you), but whether you’ll pick up the hammer.
